The Horrors We See

The Horrors We See is a tabletop roleplaying game that focuses on collaboratively telling the story of an unfolding conflict through the eyes of an esteemed war photographer. Players will photograph the suffering of this senseless conflict and roleplay the struggles of the woman capturing them as she fights for the lives of others. 

This game has been written as a direct response to the gamification of army recruitment in the Western world. War is not a game.

This game was written as part of the Games Transformed 2024: No War But Class War game jam.  It has not yet been formally playtested, and there may be some small errors or typos throughout the playbooks; if you encounter these, please let us know.

This game is a letter of support and love to the victims of war around the world, especially those who are further burdened with having to share the truth with the world. We stand with the people of Palestine, Sudan, Democratic of the Congo, Tigray, Ukraine, and all people around the world suffering through war, genocide, forced displacement, labour abuses and modern slavery, and all other cruelties of the imperial world. 

We encourage players to do what they can to aid these people beyond this game; rise awareness by uplifting their voices and donate where you can. If you cannot donate, consider listening to music from artists that donate the income of those streams (here are some of those artists: playlist one, two, and three). Your attention is as powerful as your money; do not look away and do nothing. 

Also includes Hold R2 to Die, a short personal essay about first person shooters, dehumanisation, and gaming's connection to militarism.
